Horns are very different than antlers.
Horns grow on animals like bison, mountain goats, sheep, cows & the pronghorn antelope. Horns are actually two parts - hair & keratin (this is the same substance as your fingernails). The horns have a bone core underneath. Horns are permanent and keep growing on the animal for its life. The antelope is the exception which sheds its horns and it regrows each year.
Bighorn sheep horns can weigh up to 30 pounds! If you count the rings on the sheep you can figure out how old the sheep is.
Antlers grow on caribou, deer, elk & moose. Antlers are made of bone and grow on the males. Here the exception is the caribou, the females also grow antlers. Antlers fall off each year - or "drop".
