The scouts handled over 50 different animal skins & hides & learned what items the Native American Indians & pioneers made from leather.
We made leather pouches with stamped nametags & decorated with animal hides (beaver, racoon & coyote). Had a great time & the scouts completed a number of the requirements for the leatherwork merit badge; pattern layout & transfer, cutting, hole punching, stamping, assembly by stitching, setting snaps & creating an item from leather.
