NAACS 2012 - leather bag

At the NAACS event at Camp Rilea in 2012, we held a leatherwork workshop for the scouts.
The scouts handled over 50 different animal skins & hides & learned what items the Native American Indians & pioneers made from leather.
We made leather pouches with stamped nametags & decorated with animal hides (beaver, racoon & coyote).   Had a great time & the scouts completed a number of the requirements for the leatherwork merit badge; pattern layout & transfer, cutting, hole punching, stamping, assembly by stitching, setting snaps & creating an item from leather.

       Design, pattern layout & cutting
Review of tools made from various types of leather / animals
         Beaver & raccoon skin decoration
         Lacing the pouch
Completed pouch with coyote skin & 2 snaps on closure
