Thank you for your donations!

A big thanks to the people and companies ( now at 98!) who provided samples for our collection of hides and leather, tools & related products!!!

Why a collection of hides & leather & related products?  So the boys can see up close & feel the beauty & difference between the various types of animals.

This helps them appreciate the beauty and variety of these miraculous creatures.  This appreciation should build a sense of respect and further develop a sense of responsibility to use our resources wisely.

Our project - a coonskin cap!

Requirement # 3 is to make an article out of leather.  We will make a real coonskin cap!  Yes, this will be from the tanned hide of a racoon (or skunk or possum).

We buy the hides from a fur trader in Washington who legally traps the animals.

Our process will include the following steps;
1.  Pattern layout and transfer
2. Cutting leather
3. Punching holes
4. Stamping surface designs
5. Assembly by stitching
